Lexus Displaying Next-Generation "GS 250" at Auto Guangzhou 2011

Lexus is displaying the all-new "GS 250" at the 9th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition, open from today until November 28. The show is open to the press today, and will be open for the public from November 22 through 28.

The GS 250 is the third model in the new GS lineup, after the previously unveiled "GS 350" and "GS 450h" top-end model. The GS 250 shares the same framework as its siblings, including the signature spindle grill, as well as a completely redesigned platform and suspension.

Lexus GS entry-level hybrid

Lexus is working on an ultra-fuel-efficient entry-level Lexus GS to take on small-engined large German sedans like the BMW 520d, Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI, and Audi A6 2.0 TDI. Instead of going diesel though, Lexus is set to introduce a small petrol engine teamed with a hybrid system.

Bentley updates Continental GTC for North American debut

Bentley Motors' Continental GTC is making its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this year, adding updated styling and performance to the company's sporty convertible.


The two-door drop-top gains the muscular refreshed front fascia of its sibling, the 2012 Continental GT coupe, and a upgrade in power over previous models with a 567-horsepower W-12 engine.

The GTC hits 60 miles per hour from standstill in just 4.5 seconds. Bentley says a new Quickshift transmission improves acceleration in the 5,115-pound vehicle while trimming shift times to 200 milliseconds.

VATH introduces its package for the new Mercedes SLK, including power upgrade for all the engines in the range.

2011 Mini Cooper Countryman

the base 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman is not targeting my demographic. This pricey Mini with glandular issues just made me kinda grumpy.

Conversely, my 13 year-old daughter and her two friends, whom I drive to school every day, were over the moon for this Surf Blue box of whimsy.

“It’s soooo cute!”

“Every thing in here is, like, oh my gawd, round!”

“Look at the speedometer. It’s huge!”

“The cup holders, they slide!”

And so it went.

The Countryman inspired them to roll down the windows and wave to strangers. They were so, like, happy.

So why am I so, like, grumpy?

Maybe because I’m quite fond of the regular Mini Cooper hatchback, and admire BMW for capturing the spirit of the original (one of which I owned as a youth) in a thoroughly modern car.

Maybe because this four-seat not-so-mini Mini crossover is a bit too style over substance for my tastes.

First and foremost, Minis should be fun to drive. In base Cooper trim with six-speed manual transmission (a six-speed auto with paddles costs $1,490), and carrying a not insubstantial MSRP of $27,850 ($32,150 as tested), the Countryman falls flat.
